Terminations of Residential Tenancies in NSW (and how to challenge them)

What is this online information session about?

This online information session provides a comprehensive overview of the termination process for tenants in both the private market and social/public housing.

We will explore the following key topics:

• Termination Rights: How either the tenant or landlord can end a tenancy agreement.
• Notice Periods and Procedures: The required notice periods and procedures for terminating a tenancy from both parties' perspectives.
• Eviction Circumstances: The conditions under which a tenant can be evicted and the stages of the eviction process.
• Tenant Protections: Actions tenants can take if a landlord acts outside the Residential Tenancies Act 2010, including unlawful termination and lockouts.

This session will present practical information in clear, plain language, aimed at clarifying tenants' rights and obligations during the termination process.

This session is valuable for community workers, advocates, and volunteers in fields such as financial counseling, housing services, universities, and community legal centres, and is specifically applicable to NSW.
