Redfern Legal Centre supports growing calls to change the date of Australia Day. 26 January should be commemorated as a day of mourning, protest and reflection, rather than a national day of celebration.

Celebrating 40 years! Our year in review... This year, like all the ones before, RLC staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to make our communities stronger and our laws fairer. 

As part of RLC's​ UNSW Police Powers clinic, held during Spring semester 2017, students were asked to research and create two short legal information videos targeting their peers.

On 20 November 2017 the District Court held that an arrest for the statement “none of your fucking business” was unlawful, because the police failed to consider any alternatives to arrest.

On 14 November 2017, RLC's International Student Solicitor, Sean Stimson gave comments to SBS as part of a joint investigation by The Feed, SBS VICELAND, SBS language programs and Fairfax Media into permanent residency and visa-related scams targeting international students.​

Queanbeyan police will go to the homes of people on a secret NSW police watchlist without cause and will actively seek these people on the street. (The Sydney Morning Herald, 12 November 2017).
