The Boarding Houses Act 2012 commenced in full on 1 July. This is a long awaited piece of legislation that will mean boarding house residents are better protected by law. Boarders and lodgers are excluded from the Residential Tenancies Act 2010 which means they cannot rely on that Act for remedies when their are evicted or have their bonds or goods withheld.
