Submission: On the Inquiry into the National Consumer Credit Protection Bill 2009

We continue to support the Commonwealth legislation to regulate all credit and mortgages, and continue to believe that State Courts and Tribunals should retain some power to hear minor credit and mortgage matters in their own jurisdictions.

RLC submitted that mortgage and finance brokers should be subject to stringent licensing requirements, and we acknowledge that the National Consumer Credit Protection Bill 2009 goes a long way toward this end. 

We also support the proposed increase to $500,000 in the cap for hardship matters, and indexation thereof.
