Legal centres around the country, including Sydney’s Redfern and Kingsford Legal Centres and the ACT’s Women’s Legal Centre are temporarily suspending services, such as face-to-face advice and outreach programs despite escalating legal need.
Redfern Legal Centre chief executive Joanna Shulman said her centre had ceased all face-to-face advice. However, it was already seeing increased demand from casuals who had been let off and tenants faced with eviction. “We’re concerned about being able to meet that demand in these very tough times,” she said.
However, she said the centre was embracing technology and forming new partnerships to try to meet some of those demands.

Community legal centres providing urgent legal help to some of the community's most vulnerable are being forced to cease face-to-face services as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
