In case you missed it, we hosted a seminar on the new Costs Protection Laws established under the Australian Human Rights Commission Amendment (Costs Protection) Bill 2023. These laws, passed in September 2024
The new laws establish an ‘equal access’ costs model for federal discrimination law claims.
These laws improve access to justice for people who have endured sexual harassment or discrimination on the basis of their race, sex, disability or other attributes, and ensure people can take their claims to court without the significant financial risk of having to pay the legal costs of the person, company or organisation who has harassed or discriminated against them
Our expert panel, included
Seri Feldman-Gubbay, Senior Solicitor at Redfern Legal Centre
Maria Nawaz, General Counsel at Grata Fund
Ellen Tilbury, Principal Solicitor at Justice and Equity Centre
… who shared valuable insights on how the laws were crafted, their practical implications, and the positive change they will bring for those affected by discrimination and sexual harassment.
You can now watch the seminar recording on the 20th of February here.
