WHAT IS THIS WEBINAR ABOUT?
What is NSW Police and Health best practice when someone reports a sexual assault?
With recent public discussion about the reporting of sexual assault, people have asked what steps police and health follow in response to these allegations. For example, after a report is made:
- Are there guidelines about police taking a statement?
- At what point might police question an alleged perpetrator?
- When might forensic evidence be collected? Why might police decide not to investigate?
- What happens when a survivor presents at a hospital and reports sexual assault?
- How does health work with police in the investigation and prosecution of sexual assault?
In this webinar, an expert panel will provide practical tips and discuss best practice in responding to sexual assault and what to do if best practice is not being followed. Panellists:
- Assistant Commissioner Stacey Maloney, previously Commander, Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad, NSW Police Force
- Lisa Simpson, Manager Community Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselling Service, Sydney Local Health District.
Facilitated by:
- Liz Snell, Law Reform and Policy Co-ordinator, Women's Legal Service NSW
- Sam Lee, Solicitor, Police Accountability and Admin Law, Redfern Legal Centre.
This webinar will be of interest to NSW community workers and other professionals, and to the general public.
