She was presented with the 2011 Senior Highly Commended Volunteer of the Year Award at Parliament House by The Hon Victor Dominello, Minister for Volunteering, and later the MP's Volunteer of the Year Award by The Hon Tanya Plibersek. Part of Margaret's prize included nominating a not-for-profit to receive $500. Margaret chose to give this to the Redfern Legal Centre. This $500 came on top of the $200 Margaret had already been able to give to the Centre as a reward for coming runner-up in another volunteer award, bringing the total to $700.
