Despite the recent reversal of additional Federal cuts to Community Legal Centres, RLC has been left with a funding shortfall of $290,000 due to previous State and Federal cuts that have not been reversed.
We now face losing half of our general legal team. Our credit and debt service, police powers, and employment & discrimination services are facing closure. We estimate that we will be forced to turn away 500 clients seeking our help over the next year.
You can watch a recent ABC 'Australia Wide' profile on RLC about our funding crisis here and read about it on the ABC News website here. You can also read more about the funding cuts and what they will mean for RLC in the latest Law Society Journal ('Access to Justice Under Threat' p24), written by RLC CEO Jo Shulman.
