Lawyers have launched a class action investigation into what they believe could be hundreds of “unlawful” strip searches by New South Wales Police of patrons at the Splendour in the Grass Music Festival.

Redfern Legal Centre and Slater and Gordon Lawyers on Tuesday announced a class action investigation into the alleged unlawful police searches at Splendour in the Grass from 2016 to 2019.

RLC is taking a different avenue in challenging rising strip search use, as it announced last week that it’s teamed up with Slater and Gordon to run a class action on behalf of Splendour in the Grass patrons who may have been subjected to an illegal strip search

Redfern Legal Centre and Slater and Gordon Lawyer believe festival-goers who were unlawfully searched by NSW Police could be entitled to “substantial” compensation as part of a monumental class action case.

NSW Police could face a large compensation bill if a class action lawsuit alleging unlawful searches took place at a popular music festival is successful.

Class action lawyers believe hundreds of young Australians were unlawfully strip-searched at Splendour In The Grass festivals between 2016 and 2019, and are calling for these people to join the case against the New South Wales Police.
