As part of RLC's UNSW Police Powers clinic, held during Spring semester 2017, students were asked to research and create two short legal information videos targeting their peers.
The videos discuss rights and responsibilities in regards to police and transit offer requests for an individual to show their ID.
"This is a common issue affecting many students," RLC Police Powers Solicitor Sophie Parker explains. "Providing legal information on this topic in an easily shared video format is a great way to reach the student community and ensure that students are aware of their rights."
Watch the videos below.
Have the police ever asked to see your ID? There are laws that they must follow and it's important you know your rights.
Have you ever been asked to show your ID by police or transport officers on public transport? You don’t need to show any identification, unless you hold a concession ticket.
If you think you have been treated unfairly, and would like to make a complaint, call RLC on 02 9698 7277.
