For many people in our community, 26 January is a potent and painful reminder of the dispossession of country that signalled the beginning of ongoing violence, oppression and discrimination against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Changing the date of Australia Day would be a simple yet powerful gesture of reconciliation, and an important way to achieve a national day that the whole of our community could celebrate together in a meaningful and respectful way.
On 26 January, RLC stands in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people in our local community and across the country. It's time to change the date.
