PLT Police Accountability/ Communications Volunteer Placement
Redfern Legal Centre offers a unique opportunity for a PLT student seeking exciting and dynamic communications experience in an innovative legal practice to volunteer two days a week with our Police Accountability team and Communications and Media Manager. Ideal for a Bachelor of Communication (Journalism)/Bachelor of Laws, or Bachelor of Laws student, the position provides training and supervision in-person.
The Police Accountability practice, an innovative statewide initiative, works on test cases, advocacy, and law reform to drive systemic change. RLC employs strategic media and communication approaches, amplifying change for social justice.
Position Description
Responsibilities include client intake, file review, administration, research, legal drafting, client interviews, follow-up on client matters, content creation for submissions, articles, e-bulletins, social media posts, and media releases.
Essential Selection Criteria
Eligibility for Practical Legal Training, availability of 75 days preferred.
Strong interest in police accountability and communications.
Understanding of and commitment to social justice.
Experience in administration and customer service.
Knowledge of ethical practice issues in community legal centres, including confidentiality and conflict of interest.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Design skills.
Ability to work in our Redfern office.
Redfern Legal Centre requires all volunteers to complete an LPA declaration and have COVID vaccinations.
