Redfern Legal Centre operates the only specialised police complaints advice service in NSW. The service provides free information and advice in matters involving complaints against the NSW Police Force. RLC assists in formal complaints and acts in civil litigation against the state of NSW for false imprisonment, assault, battery, and malicious prosecution.
Students taking part in the Clinic will undertake casework and project work under the supervision of RLC’s Police Powers Solicitor David Porter. The experience emphasises critical analysis of the effect that laws and police practices have on disadvantaged clients. As well as assisting solicitors in advising clients, students will conduct research and engage in community legal education.
The Clinic begins on Friday 6th March 2015 and runs through the course of the semester.
