PLT Placement (Volunteer) – Financial Abuse

RLC is seeking an enthusiastic PLT student to work a minimum of 2-3 days per week for 6 months in our new state-wide Financial Abuse Service. Applicants must be available to start no later than the week commencing 17 June 2019.

Position Description

In this role you will gain valuable experience supporting vulnerable clients and working on cutting edge law reform in areas including banking misconduct, consumer protections and more.

Responsibilities include: client intake, file review, general administration, research, legal drafting, interviewing clients, and follow up on client matters, under supervision of the financial abuse solicitor.

Selection Criteria


  1. Completion of law degree and eligibility to commence Practical Legal Training
  2. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to social justice
  3. Demonstrated experience in administration and/or customer service
  4. Strong understanding of ethical practice issues affecting community legal centres, including confidentiality and conflict of interest
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of issues affecting RLC’s client groups and an interest in the work of RLC's financial abuse service.


  1. Demonstrated knowledge of domestic violence and trauma-informed legal practice
  2. Ability to speak a relevant community language
  3. Previous front desk experience at Redfern Legal Centre will be highly regarded.
