PLT Placement (Volunteer), Sydney Institute TAFE Branch Office
Redfern Legal Centre is seeking an enthusiastic PLT Placement to support the solicitor at Sydney Institute TAFE Legal Service, a branch office of Redfern Legal Centre.
Responsibilities include client intake, file review, general administration, research, legal drafting, interviewing clients, and follow up on client matters, under supervision of the solicitor. The office consists entirely of the solicitor (3 days per week) and a small team of volunteers.
Selection criteria:
1. Completion of law degree and eligibility to commence Practical Legal Training.
2. Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to social justice.
3. Experience in administration or customer service.
4. Understanding of ethical issues affecting Community Legal Centres including confidentiality and conflict of interest.
5. Available four days per week (Monday to Thursday) for at least 3 months commencing September.
6. Good written and verbal communication skills.
7. Ability to work independently or as part of a small team.
Desirable:
8. Ability to speak a relevant community language.
9. Demonstrated interest in issues affecting international students.
10. Demonstrated interest in tenancy issues including boarders and lodgers.
